HTC Legend Android phone reviewed

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Check out our new £250 Amazon voucher giveaway! HTC Legend Android phone reviewed Unfortunately, we didn’t do this review, but with a sparkling 3.2-inch AMOLED, five megapixel camera with flash, running on a 600 MHz CPU and Android 2.1 and of course all possible connectivities you can imagine, the HTC Legend has the potential to be an outstanding smartphone. It sports a touchscreen rather than a full QWERTY and has pretty much the characteristics of its predecessor, the HTC Hero. However, compared to the Hero, almost every feature and hardware specification has received an upgrade, supposedly making it much less buggy than first generation HTC Android phones. I personally like the quality of the AMOLED alot and think that HTC has done an excellent job at perfecting this phone. If you’re considering a new phone and fancy a chance at trying out Android OS based smartphones, we highly recommend you check out the latest review just recently done by the folks over at Gizmodo. The HTC Legend is not yet available in Europe, but hopefully later this month. It is expected to cost around £390. Unfortunately there is yet to be any announcement made regarding its availability in the US. [via Gizmodo ]

Vodafone accused of supplying malware on HTC Magic

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Check out our new £250 Amazon voucher giveaway! Vodafone accused of supplying malware on HTC Magic In a recent scenario, Vodafone was held responsible for supplying a Mariposa botnet malware and other threats on HTC Magic Android Smartphones. It was noticed that a smartphone supplied by Vodafone’s Spanish division was attempting to make a backdoor entry into the systems during the synchronization process to steal critical information. The news became widespread as the customer affected is an employee of Spanish anti-virus firm Panda Security. The extra code had been devised to generate information from systems not concerned with the recent detaining of three suspected botmasters in Spain. However, Vodafone acknowledged the problem and claimed it to be a totally isolated incident. Pedro Bustamante, the researcher at Panda Security who analyzed the attack confirmed the malware to be a Mariposa bot client. The botnet-control mechanism revealed that this malware belongs to a guy named ‘tnls’. Once it infects the systems, the malware sends a connection request back home to receive further orders perhaps to steal all data pertaining to user’s credentials. The smartphone was also found to be infected by Confiker and a Lineage password-stealing code as per analysts at Panda. Vodafone stated that security and privacy of its customers are one of its top concerns. Following the incident they lunched an immediate investigation to find the root cause and concluded that this was an isolated local incident. These problems usually are a result of an infected computer in the manufacturing or production lines of the company. [via Ubergizmo ]

Yakuza 3

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Check out our new £250 Amazon voucher giveaway! Yakuza 3 Yakuza 3 might have been a long time coming, this game is going to be release later this month, but it’s another great PS3 swansong. And it’s easy to see why Sega took its time bringing the game to Europe. On the one hand it’s a very good beat-em-up packed with cool gangsters, the sort of stuff which translates easily but on the other it’s basically an upperclass Japanese lifestyle simulator, which is understandably a much harder sell. You play, Kiryu Kauma, who spends his life alternately brutalizing thugs and dosing around swanky Japanese towns. This is a set against a relentlessly paced mob story that sees our man – the former head of the Tojo clan, now retired called upon a crisis hits his old gang. The plot is tangled and the telling takes its time – there are literally hours of cutscenes here. Still, at least the translation is subtitled, rather than the godawful sub-American soap dubbing Sega used in the previous Yakuza. And the really good news is the upshot of all the HBO-style intrigue is fighting, Loads and loads of fighting. Your Yakuza can use a huge number of weapons and has some of the most brutal finishers you will see outside of Manhunt. The basics seem limited initially, but that’s because the early enemies struggle to give the system a proper work-out. By halfway your foes became smarter and tougher, and real strategy comes into play. Kiryu can be leveled up almost constantly, which rather than simply boosting stats opens up new moves and styles: by the time you are drop-kicking thugs to the floor and following up with a crack to the face, the combat has completely transformed from cumbersome to Chuck Norris.
